Fire Burning Near Allenspark Started By Lightning

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Fire investigators said the Taylor Mountain Fire burning near Allenspark was caused by lightning Saturday afternoon. It burned one acre about two miles northeast of Allenspark.

The Alpine Interagency Hotshot Crew and an air tanker responded and had the fire completely contained by 10 p.m. Saturday.

"Luckily we are in a fuel treatment area and the fire stayed close to the ground the entire time," said Forest Service Incident Commander Ed LeBlanc. "A couple of slash piles put up smoke but were too green to burn completely, and the log decks remain untouched."

Parts of National Forest System lands in the Taylor Mountain area were recently thinned as part of a hazardous fuels reduction program.

There are no structures are threatened. The closest homes are approximately one mile away.
