Driver Arrested In Hit-And-Run Bicycle Fatality

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- A driver has been arrested in a Colorado Springs hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist.

Police arrested 50-year-old Mark L. Doutt Saturday after tips led them to Doutt's 1988 Buick. The car had damage consistent with the crash early that morning.

Authorities say 44-year-old William Byas Jr. was riding son the right edge of a street around 1 a.m. when a vehicle struck his Trek mountain bicycle from behind. Byas was thrown from the bike and died on the scene from an apparent spinal injury, police said.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that Doutt is being held on $10,000 bond.
