Driver Charged In Hit-And-Run That Left Child Seriously Injured

DENVER (CBS4)- A woman is facing child abuse charges for allegedly striking the child and driving away. Police in Denver said Brittany Gonzales, 21, was driving drunk when she hit an 11-year-old boy on a bicycle.

The incident happened at about 8 p.m. on June 18 at Irving Street and Dakota Ave. Police said Gonzales stopped her car to pick up a hubcap and then drove away without helping the boy or reporting the crash.

Officers located her car near Alaska Place and Knox Court based on information from a witness. Gonzales was released from custody on a $50,000 bond.

She is charged with vehicular assault, child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence.

Gonzales is scheduled to appear in a Denver County Courtroom at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 where she will be formally advised of the charges.
