Thousands Come Out For 36th Annual Pridefest

DENVER (CBS4) - The 36th annual Pridefest parade hit the streets of downtown Denver Sunday morning.

This year's grand marshal is an Iraq war veteran.

The Pridefest theme this year was "These Colors Don't Run." It's to recognize the end of the U.S. military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Former Air Force major Mike Almy served for 13 years. He said he was forced to leave after a colleague saw private e-mail messages revealing he was gay.

"I was born to be an Air Force officer. I grew up in an Air Force family; a lot of military in my family," Almy said. "I hoping to get back in once 'don't ask, don't tell' is completely repealed and I can resume my career as an officer in the Air Force."

After the parade Pridefest continued at Civic Center Park.

Denver has one of the largest events in the country.
