Family Of Bears Gets Free Pass In Boulder Park

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Four bears spent the night in a Boulder park after spending the day snoozing in a cottonwood tree.

It was a momma bear and three cubs. The Colorado Division of Wildlife says the sow is probably 4 or 5 years old.

The furry family didn't move much throughout the day except to stretch every now and again. For the humans in Tantra Park it was an impromptu Friday afternoon wildlife show.

"I've been in boulder 15 years and I've never seen one," Boulder resident Wendy Komarnitsky said.

"If at all possible we would like to allow the bear to move out on her own. It's safer for her cubs and for the public," Larry Rogstad with Colorado Division of Wildlife said.

Wildlife officers say they'll stay at the park and wait for the bears to come down, then they'll encourage them to move to a better area for them further east.
