Name Of Rafter Who Died On Arkansas River Released

SALIDA, Colo. (CBS4)- A San Antonio woman was killed in Colorado on Wednesday during a rafting trip on the Arkansas River in Chaffee County.

Authorities say a big wave swept Sue Ann Apolinar, 38, off the commercial raft she was riding on and into the river. The other passengers on the raft, as well as the guide, were also thrown into the river.

The other riders were quickly were picked up by another raft. The guide then righted the original raft and pulled Apolinar in. Moments later the raft capsized again in the next rapid.

Apolinar reportedly was washed into some branches where she became trapped. She was recovered quickly but it was determined she had no pulse and was not breathing. CPR was immediately started. She was pronounced dead by a physician from Salida.

That stretch of the river -- Seidel's Suck Hole in Browns Canyon -- includes Class 4 rapids.
