Denver's New Animal Shelter Now Open

DENVER (CBS4)- Denver's new animal shelter is open to the public after a big move over the weekend.

The new facility is 1241 West Bayaud Avenue near Interstate 25 and Alameda. It is more than twice as large as the old shelter. It features separate areas for lost pets and adoptions.

"We are so excited to be in this new facility. It's a great place. It's a better place for people, it's a better place for pets," said Denver Municipal Animal Shelter spokeswoman Megan Hughes.

The shelter will host a grand opening on Saturday, hosted by Denver Mayor Bill Vidal.

There will be adoption specials for those looking to expand their family. Take home a dog for $80 or a cat for $50.
