Police: Sex Assault Suspect Was Showing Lamborghini To Kids

DENVER (CBS4) - He proclaimed his innocence in a homemade video, now a Colorado pilot accused of sexually assaulting children is back behind bars.

The new charges also involve children. Investigators say the suspect was showing off a fancy car to children.

The car was Lamborghini. That is just part of the new charges James Craig Bird faces.

Bird was once a pilot for a large Colorado church. He was originally charged in December 2009, but wasn't arrested until December 2010. He was arrested in England while working as a pilot under his own name. Bird was extradited to Jefferson County, but then released on bond. Now he's back in jail.

"First of all, I must say these allegations are false. I am extremely surprised and very sad that this has transpired," Bird said in a video posted on a website in 2009.

Bird faces two counts of delinquency of a minor and also violating the conditions of his bond. The new charges claim Bird had a 14-year-old boy over at his home and served him rum and orange juice. Another boy named was 17 years old and also served alcohol.

Bird was awaiting trial on sexual assault charges involving two brothers. That's when he posted his defense directly aimed at one boy.

"You know that these allegations are without cause," Bird said in his 2009 video. "Are you aware of what you were doing to me? My life and my future have been placed in jeopardy."

Bird is accused of violating his bond after being spotted at a car show recently with his blue Lamborghini. The tipster told the sheriff's department children from age 5 years old and older were sitting on the car with Bird taking pictures.

Terms of Bird's release on bond prohibited him having any contact with anyone under the age of 18. That includes the children who said they were served alcohol at his home, and the children at the car show.

Bird is now being held on $1 million bond.
