New Law To Give Mesa State College New Name
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Mesa State College in Grand Junction will have a new name starting Aug. 10.
The Daily Sentinel reports that Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a bill into law Monday that will turn the school in western Colorado into Colorado Mesa University.
School officials say it's not just the name that's changing. Mesa State offers more academic programs and degrees, including master's programs and one doctoral program.
School officials also wanted a more geographically descriptive name that makes it clear the school is in Colorado.
Mesa State was established in 1925 as Grand Junction Junior College.
