Douglas Bruce Faces New Battle
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Anti-tax crusader Douglas Bruce faces another legal challenge after a complaint was filed that he illegally practiced law.
Bruce has until June 15 to respond to a Colorado Supreme Court order demanding he show cause why he should not be kept from practicing law, according to Law Week of Colorado, a publication for lawyers.
Bruce already faces possible jail time over tax evasion charges filed in Denver District Court. The most serious charge carries a fine of $500,000 or up to six years in prison.
Bruce told the Colorado Springs Gazette on Sunday that he has no law office, collected no fee, and never impersonated a lawyer.
The complaint accused Bruce of offering legal support to supporters of a city charter initiative that was never put on the ballot.
