Aurora Explores Settlement Over Police Shooting

DENVER (AP) - The Aurora city attorney's office says the city is exploring settlement opportunities with the family of a man killed by police.

Officers shot 22-year-old Oleg Gidenko after receiving a report of three unfamiliar men in a fenced-in car storage lot late March 20. The Denver Post reports Gidenko needed a new door for a relative's car at the time.

Police documents say two officers fired more than a dozen shots at Gidenko and two friends at the lot after Gidenko allegedly tried to drive away. Gidenko died, but 18-year-old Yevgeniy "Eugene" Straystar survived.

Straystar and Gidenko's friend Ruslan Giriyev face charges of criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools and theft.

Prosecutors are reviewing the shooting and three other fatal shootings by Aurora police to determine whether officers' actions were justified.
