Man Accused Of Breaking Into Westminster Home Has Bond Reduced

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4)- The man accused of breaking into a Westminster home and terrorizing the owner appeared in Adams County court in Brighton on Thursday. Benjamin Saffell had his bail reduced.

Saffell, 23, allegedly broke into Theresa Middleton's home on May 27. Middleton barricaded herself in her bedroom closet with her teenage son and called 911.

When Saffell entered the bedroom, Middleton said she began negotiating with him, while on the phone with a 911 dispatcher. That gave authorities enough time to respond to the call and arrest Saffell.

Middleton said she acted only on her instinct.

"I feel that I did exactly what any mother would have done to protect her children," Middleton.

Saffell is scheduled to appear in court June 23. He's been ordered to stay away from Middleton by an Adams County judge.
