Springs Officer Accused Of Sexual Assault Faces 83 Counts

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - A Colorado Springs police officer accused of sexually assaulting children is now facing 83 counts.

Joshua Carrier was in court Tuesday. He's accused of buying child pornography and sexually assaulting six children.

Carrier worked as a school resource officer and assistant wrestling coach at Horace Mann Middle School in Colorado Springs.

The new charges include allegations that Carrier had the children strip alone in his office, supposedly to check them for ring worm.

The alleged acts occurred from October of last year to this month.

The case is generating strong opinions on both sides.

"Anger, because I've taught my children they can trust police officers," Horace Mann parent Denise Wallace said.

"I'm concerned there's a real quick rush to judgment here because I really trust him and I trust his heart," Carrier family friend Sid Huston said.

Carrier is being held on a $500,000 bond. He will be back in court next week.
