Man Dies After Losing Control Of Motorcycle In Aurora

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A man has died after losing control of his motorcycle in Aurora on Sunday morning.

Lt. Chuck DeShazer said shortly before 10 a.m. police and fire responded to the crash north of 32nd Parkway on North Picadilly Road.

"Arriving units found a black and red 2003 Yamaha R6 off of the west side of Picadilly," DeShazer said in a statement.

The rider has been identified as Lars Mickelson, 28, of Denver, He sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

"Witnesses indicated the motorcycle was northbound at a high rate of speed. The rider lost control of the motorcycle and crossed into the southbound lane of Picadilly before leaving the west side of the roadway and colliding with a dirt embankment," DeShazer said.

The motorcycle did not hit another vehicle.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine if drugs, alcohol or a medical condition contributed to the crash.
