Elderly Woman Severely Burned In Lakewood Condo Fire
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - An elderly woman who entered her burning apartment suffered severe burns.
Firefighters rushed to the condominium complex at 630 South Carr Street in Lakewood at about 1 p.m. Saturday. They found the unit completely engulfed in flames.
Police officers rescued the woman.
"We could hear the lady banging on the window," a neighbor said. "She was banging for us to get her out. She tried to break the window and I told her not to because it would ignite the flames. It was so sad."
"There was thick black smoke. There was nothing anybody could do," another neighbor said.
Firefighters say the dangerous combination of smoking and oxygen tanks caused the fire.
The woman may have been trying to rescue her cat when she went inside her home when it was on fire.
