Denver-Area Events Will Honor Servicemembers On Memorial Day

DENVER (CBS4) - Coloradans will gather around the state on Monday to honor those who gave their lives in service to the United States military branches.

It's a the day to honor everyone who has served in the American military.

Littleton will host two services, the first at 8 a.m. in the Veteran's Circle in the Littleton Cemetery at 6155 Sr. Prince. A second service will be held at 10 a.m. at the Littleton World War II Memorial, that's in Ketring Park.

Greeley also plans an early ceremony with its program beginning at 9 a.m. at the Linn Grove Cemetery at 1700 Cedar Ave. Rep. Cory Gardner will be the guest speaker and the program features the Colorado ANG flyover and the Greeley Police Department Honor Guard.

One of the largest services will be held at Fort Logan at 11 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Maj. Gen. H Michael Edwards who is the Adjutant General of Colorado. Author of "Sacred Ground: A Tribute to America's Veterans" Tom Ruck will deliver the Memorial Day Address and Lavonne Liversage with the VA Rocky Mountain Network will also speak.

Aurora will host a Memorial Day Commemoration at 11:30 a.m. on the east side of the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E. Alameda Parkway. The ceremony will include an address by Col. Brian Patterson who is the vice commander of the 140th Wing Buckley AFB. There will also be an F-16 flyover.

One of the largest Memorial Day Gatherings in the country takes place in Folsom Field as part of Bolder Boulder. It's estimated as many 50,000 spectators are on hand for the ceremony which includes sky divers carrying flags for each branch of the military, a military flyover and 21-gun salute as well as recognizing precipitants of the Medal of Honor.

The Marine Corps Memorial Association will conduct a ceremony to honor all veterans of the Armed Forces at 2 p.m. at its memorial site located at the intersections of Highways 6 and 40 in Golden. Master Sergeant Ralph Rodriguez, Ret. will be the keynote speaker. He served in Vietnam with the 3rd Marine Division.
