DENVER (AP) — Joe Saunders snapped a personal six-game losing skid and Kelly Johnson homered and drove in two runs in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 5-2 win over Colorado on Tuesday night that earned them a split of their double-header.
Saunders (1-5) allowed two runs on six hits over eight innings. He walked four and struck out two and allowed solo homers to Jason Giambi and Ty Wigginton.
J.J. Putz pitched the ninth for his 13th save in as many chances.
Jhoulys Chacin (5-3) allowed five earned runs on five hits in seven innings.
Giambi’s homer was his sixth this season and fifth in less than a week. Aside from Wigginton’s third homer, the Rockies couldn’t muster any other offense after winning the opener 12-4 but losing starter Jorge De La Rosa to a torn elbow ligament.
