Mother Honors Son With Anti-Violence Signs
DENVER (CBS4)- A mother is honoring her son with a sign that she hopes will inspire others to stay violence-free. More than six years ago, Desiderio Rodriguez was shot and killed while he was working at a bar on South Broadway.
His mother, Helen Rodriguez, placed a sign reading, "Violence Not Tolerated In This Neighborhood" outside the spot where the single father was gunned down.
"I just want people to become aware that we can help and we can stop the violence and we can stop tearing families apart like this," said Rodriguez. 
She petitioned the City of Denver to install the sign. Helen hopes similar signs will be placed in other spots where murders happened, not only to honor those who's lives were taken, but to remind people of the heartbreak and devastation that follows.
"I'm so proud that I could do this in memory of my son and all the victims out there and all their families," said Rodriguez. "This is a great victory."
