Boulder Set To Launch Public Bike Sharing Program

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A large-scale bike sharing program will roll out this week in Boulder.

The Daily Camera reported Boulder B-cycle will launch Friday in Boulder. Authorities say the 100-bike rental program mimics a similar sharing system started in Denver last year.

Members can pay a fee for an annual, weekly or daily pass during which they can rent any bike at a B-cycle station for up to an hour without an additional fee. Rides that take longer are charged $8 an hour. Renters are charged $1,000 for lost or stolen bikes.

A Boulder consulting firm will monitor bike availability and credit card information at bike stations through a cellular data device. The company also monitors other B-cycle stations in Hawaii, Chicago, Omaha, Neb., and San Antonio.
