Hit & Run Of 10-Year-Old Boy Caught On Video

DENVER (CBS4) - A 10-year-old boy survived being hit by a car right in front of his house. Amazingly, he walked away with just cuts and bruises. Now police need help finding the driver who struck the young man and sped off.

The hit-and-run was all caught on video. It happened on Friday around 8 p.m. on South Irving Street about one mile from the intersection of 6th Avenue and Federal Boulevard.

Another driver as well as the boy's father tried to chase the car down but lost it.

Eric Aguilar had barely darted out in front of a parked car when he was hit.

Neighbor Nicole Ocampo, a mother of seven, and her husband have a surveillance system. Their cameras captured the accident when the neighborhood children were playing out in front of their houses. The sedan's brake lights come on for a moment, but the car speeds away and runs a stop sign.

"One of my children started screaming when I was coming downstairs saying that their friend Eric had been hit by a car," Ocampo said. "We rewound the videotape to see exactly what happened."

"I think he wanted to escape because he didn't want to be in trouble," Aguilar said. "I want the police to catch that guy who hit me with the car."

Aguilar's mother ran out and picked him up off of the side of the road after he was hit.

Although Aguilar did run into the street, neighbors say a common problem, especially as they are surrounded by school zones, is cars driving way too fast.

"Just the person come forward, say, 'It was me, I made a mistake,'" Ocampo said. "Whatever responsibility they have to take let them take it, and just apologize for not stopping."

One neighbor believes that there may have been a passenger in this car. There possibly could be some damage to the right or passenger side mirror.

The car is a dark-colored mid-size sedan, similar to a Chevy Malibu. Witnesses said it could have been a Honda Accord.

Police said neighbors made out three numbers on the Colorado license plate -- 3-5-7.
