DA: Pueblo Officer Justified In Fatal Shooting
PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - A deadly shooting by a Pueblo police officer of an armed man has been ruled justified.
Officer Phil Trujillo shot and killed Robert Daniel `'Danny" Elmore Feb. 24 while he stood in the doorway of his home. Trujillo had been responding to a report of loud music.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports that Pueblo District Attorney Bill Thiebaut in a report released Saturday ruled that Trujillo was justified in shooting Elmore. An investigation found that Trujillo rightfully believed his life was in danger when he arrived at the house and Elmore stuck a gun out the door.
A witness told police that Elmore had been arguing with his wife over her alleged infidelity and the woman allegedly threatened to send a man to the house to "shoot it up."
