DENVER (CBS4)- Officers in the Denver Police Department honored some of its fallen heroes on Friday.

There was a 21 gun salute before the names of Officers William Cabler and Willie Steam were added to the Denver Police Memorial.

In 1916, Officer Cabler was shot while patrolling Denver’s rail yards on horseback.

In 1921, Patrolman Steam was ambushed while playing cards as retaliation for closing down an illegal dance hall. space Denver Police Officers Honor Fallen Heroes

“How easily they make that choice every day to go out to put their lives on the line, understanding that someday they perhaps may not come back. The families know they may have those shattered dreams. That’s the sacrifice our police officers make every day when they step out the door,” said Denver Mayor Bill Vidal.

During the tribute, 63 doves were released to signify all the Denver police officers killed in the line of duty.
