Von Miller Knows He Needs To Be Extremely Productive

DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver Broncos are probably still shopping for some defensive tackles, but they've got the pass-rushing personnel accounted for.

The last time Elvis Dumervil suited-up he led the NFL in sacks. And with the second pick in the draft the Broncos picked up the most productive pass rusher in college football in Von Miller.

"I was watching my phone and my phone didn't ring, so I was like, 'Maybe it's not my pick.' And I looked over to my dad's phone and his phone had the 303 area code on it and I knew immediately who it was," Miller said on draft day.

"It's an exciting day for us. The guy we got was the best guy on our board," Elway said on draft day.

Miller said it was surreal.

"I'm a Denver Bronco now and I guess I've got to say that to myself about 10 times before I go to sleep," Miller said.

Getting picked second, the Broncos sent a message to Miller that they were looking for more than a complimentary player.

"I understand that I have to come in and be extremely productive, but I think that comes with all of us being extremely productive," Miller said.

On May 2 Miller participated in John Lynch's Salute the Starts luncheon and met quarterback Tim Tebow. Almost immediately after the meeting Tebow asked Miller to join him after the lunch to work out.

"(Von) said, 'I don't have any shoes,'" Lynch told the audience. "And Tim says, 'We'll take care of that.'"

Miller then met with fans and signed autographs.

"What have these three months been like? It's been amazing, it's been a great ride," Von Miller, Sr. said. "We've met so many great people. We look at this as another chapter in his life."

"It's been surreal. I've really enjoyed the whole thing and it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I feel like I've probably got about four hours of sleep over the last five days and I'm running off adrenaline and enthusiasm right now," Miller said. "I'm happy to be here and I'm excited for the opportunity to come play for the Broncos. Hopefully we can win many, many championships here with Mr. Tebow."

Miller will graduate from Texas A&M next weekend with a degree in poultry sciences.
