Larimer County Couple Avoids Jail Time In Child Abuse Case

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - A Larimer County married couple has avoided jail time in a case of child abuse. A judge handed down the sentences on Monday.

Steven and Edelwina Leschinsky were accused of forcing their three adopted daughters from Russia to perform extreme exercise as punishment, including push-ups over a board full of nails.

Edelwina Leschinsky was found guilty of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury plus three misdemeanor counts of child abuse. She was sentenced to a 4-year supervised deferred sentence. Steven was found guilty of three counts misdemeanor child abuse. He was sentenced to 4 years of supervised probation. Neither are allowed to have contact with children.

The Archdiocese of Denver had originally scheduled a fundraiser for the couple, but it was canceled after CBS4 viewers complained.
