Nurse Fails To Regain Job After Spat With Police
DENVER (AP) - An appeals court rejected a nurse's attempt to get her job back after she was fired because she told a police officer who cited for speeding that she hoped he was never one of her patients.
The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver ruled against Miriam Leverington's lawsuit arguing that her comments were protected under free speech.
Leverington was fired after getting the speeding ticket in 2008 and making the comment to the police officer. The officer told Leverington's bosses at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs and they fired her.
Leverington says the officer was rude to her and that her comment simply meant she hoped to never interact with him again.
The Denver Post reports that court ruling was issued Thursday.
