Red Cross Workers From Colorado Help Tornado Victims

DENVER (CBS4) - The Mile High Chapter of the Red Cross has 19 workers and volunteers across the southeast helping the victims of deadly tornadoes.

Among the workers is Patricia Billinger from Denver. She's in northwest Georgia in the city of Ringold and talked to CBS4 on the phone about the damage.

"I've never seen destruction like this. One thing that sticks with you is the smell, which is the smell of fresh cut trees because so many trees were mowed down by the tornadoes," she said. "Entire homes have been reduced to just rubbish."

Billinger is working in the public affairs department and helps get information out to the media and victims.

Ronald Hileman has been retired for 11 years and now volunteers for the Red Cross.

"I had a list of things I wanted to do and one of them was to help out with volunteer work," Hileman said.

Hileman and his volunteer partner Loyce Jones are taking an emergency response vehicle to help transport food, water and supplies.

"If I didn't do something like this I'd get into mischief," Jones said.
