ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (AP) – Rocky Mountain National Park crews are still reporting deep snows on Trail Ridge Road.
The road was opened for the season last year around the end of May. This year, park officials say the earliest it will likely open is May 27.
Trail Ridge is billed as the country’s highest continuously paved road. It climbs to 12,183 feet and connects the towns of Estes Park and Grand Lake.
Road crews on the east side of the road say the 10 to 14 feet of snow in one part is the most they’ve seen in years. A recent storm dumped lots of snow. And Colorado’s mountains are getting hit again this weekend.
