Ashcroft Cancels Loveland Appearance

LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) - Former Attorney General John Ashcroft has canceled a speaking appearance scheduled for this weekend in Loveland, citing a death in the family.

The Loveland Reporter-Herald reports Ashcroft was to be the keynote speaker at a prayer breakfast on Saturday.

It's the second time this year that a planned Colorado appearance by Ashcroft has been canceled.

A nonprofit Fort Collins group called Character Fort Collins called off a visit by Ashcroft in February.

The Fort Collins Coloradoan reported that some community groups objected to the earlier planned appearance because of Ashcroft's role in the administration of President George W. Bush. Character Fort Collins said the matter had "evolved past a manageable nonprofit event."
