Bullet Narrowly Misses Teacher Grading Papers At Jefferson High School

EDGEWATER, Colo. (CBS4) - Several schools in Edgewater were locked out Wednesday morning after someone shot out the window of a building at Jefferson High School.

A teacher was sitting inside the remote building grading papers when the shot came through the window within two feet from where the teacher was sitting. The bullet traveled across the classroom and lodged into an adjacent wall.

The bullet has been recovered and police are trying to determine more information on the caliber of the bullet.

In addition to the high school located at 2305 Pierce Street, Lumberg Elementary and Edgewater Elementary Schools went on lockout status. Lockdown status is different than lock down. It means no one is allowed inside the school but classes are resuming as normal. All schools have since reopened.

No one was hurt in the incident. No students were inside the building at the time, which was about 9:30 a.m.

Authorities said they were searching for a suspect or suspects. They said someone was firing a weapon multiple times nearby.
