Fort Collins Man Indicted On Mortgage Fraud Charges

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - A Fort Collins man is accused of forgery, theft and racketeering in an alleged scheme involving real estate fraud.

The Weld County district attorney's office said Tuesday that a grand jury indicted Matthew Sysum, 41, on 14 criminal counts following a 2-year investigation.

Sysum is accused of engaging in racketeering between Jan. 31, 2003, and Dec. 31, 2007. The indictment says he forged real estate documents and contracts that falsified property appraisals used as a basis for loan applications.

A message to a phone number listed for Matthew Sysum in Fort Collins wasn't immediately returned Tuesday.

Authorities say Sysum has been released on $50,000 bond. He is due in Weld County District Court May 4 for a bond hearing.
