CSU Honors Grad, Olympic Star Glenn Morris

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado State University has honored one of its greatest athletes by renaming a gymnasium and surrounding buildings as the Glenn Morris Field House.

Nearly 200 people, including several members of his family, attended the ceremony Friday. Morris graduated in 1935 from Colorado State and went on to win a gold medal at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, setting a world record in the decathlon.

Morris played a year in the NFL before an injury-ending career and played Tarzan in a movie. He died in 1974.

At CSU, Morris was an all-conference athlete in football and competed in as many as five track and field events. The Simla native was also student body president and earned economics and sociology degrees.

Morris served in the Navy in World War II.
