2 Dead After Plane Crash At Elbert County Airpark

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Two people are dead after a small plane crashed in rural Elbert County east of Parker Saturday afternoon.

The crash happened at the Rocky Mountain Airpark located at Smoky Hill Ranches. Witness Kelly Martyniak said the plane corkscrewed to the ground.

"There was no way he was going to pull it out … and the speed in which he was corkscrewing, I thought, 'There's no way,'" Martyniak said.

Martyniak said there was no smoke of flames coming from the plane. She said at times she's seen planes doing tricks but didn't think this plane was performing tricks.

On Sunday CBS4 learned then name of one of the occupants. He's been identified as Pete Vinton, who was the developer of the landing strip.

Some area residents have made objections to the airpark saying there have been too many crashes.
