Trial Gets Going For Suspect in Northern Colorado Hiker Attacks
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) ― A Loveland man accused of attacking two female hikers and robbing women drivers from a motorcycle is being tried on 23 charges related to sexual assault.
Authorities at the Larimer County District Attorney's office said they hope to begin opening statements in 40-year-old Jud Bondsteel's trial Tuesday. Jury selection began Monday.
Bondsteel is accused of attacking two women hiking northwest of Fort Collins in May 2009 with a knife. He also allegedly demanded female drivers expose themselves while robbing them at gunpoint in Loveland and Poudre Canyon in March and May of 2009.
The Coloradoan reported the two cases have been combined for the trial, which is expected to take 10 days.
With the cases combined, Bondsteel is being held on one $10,000 bond instead of two.
