Colorado Leaders Unite On Potential Solar Panel Plant

DENVER (AP) -- Colorado lawmakers are trying to convince General Electric to bring the nation's largest solar panel manufacturing plant to the state.

General Electric acquired the Arvada-based solar manufacturer PrimeStar Solar last week. Since then, GE has said Colorado is being considered for the site of its new manufacturing plant. It will employ 400 people and produce enough solar panels to power 80,000 homes a year.

All members of Colorado's congressional delegation as well as Gov. John Hickenlooper sent a letter to GE on Thursday, urging the company to pick Colorado. It was also signed by the presidents of the state's public research institutions -- the University of Colorado, Colorado State University and the Colorado School of Mines.

The letter advertises the state's dedication to clean energy research and the fact that it's home to several solar companies.
