DENVER (AP) - Michelle Obama and Jill Biden will visit Denver on Wednesday and the Colorado Springs area on Thursday in a show of support for the families of military personnel.
The first lady and the wife of Vice President Joe Biden will attend an event at Coors Field in Denver and another at Fountain-Fort Carson High School in Fountain, just south of Colorado Springs.
The visits, announced Saturday, are part of a two-day, five-city tour to showcase communities, businesses and nonprofits that support military families.
At Coors Field, singer Jessica Simpson will perform and the Colorado Rockies’ game against the Mets at Citi Field in New York will be shown on the jumbo TV screen. The Air Force Academy baseball team will practice with military families’ children.
At Fountain-Fort Carson High School, students and parents will compete in math and science drills. The event is part of the National Math and Science Initiative.
Many of the students at Fountain-Fort Carson High are children of soldiers stationed at Fort Carson southeast of Colorado Springs.
Obama and Biden also plan stops at Camp Lejeune, N.C., San Antonio and Columbus, Ohio.
