Police Announce 2nd Victim In Basketball Coach Case

Written by Brian Maass LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Lakewood on Friday announced there is a second victim in the sex assault case involving a girl's basketball coach.

The 15-year-old Alameda High School student is the second female student body member this week to admit to having sex with Wesley Adam Specht.

Specht, 26, coached the team at Alameda High School and was arrested on Wednesday night. Initially it was thought he had a sexual relationship with just one female student, but detectives apparently discovered there is another female student involved.

Specht remains in the Jefferson County Jail on sex assault charges and has declined to discuss the charges against him.

In an affidavit released Friday, the 15-year-old, who played for Specht, admitted having sex with Specht at least twice this year, including on his desk at Alameda High School just before a Saturday basketball practice. She also says she had sex with Specht in his car just outside a Lakewood recereation center where the coach had taken her to practice basketball.

The girl also told investigators that she and her coach exchanged about 7,000 text messages over the course of the most recent basketball season. The teen said that at Specht's urging, she sent him some partially nude pictures and one fully nude picture of herself.

The first Alameda student who admitted to having sexual relations with Specht told investigators she and the coach had sex at least nine times in 2010 and 2011, at his home, in his car, at Specht's parents house, and at her home.

Before the discovery of a second victim Specht was advised in court on Thursday of the several charges he now faces, including sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Specht allegedly committed the assaults with both girls last year and this year at multiple locations.

The Jefferson County School District, which employed Specht as a contract employee, said he is no longer working for the district.

One student who played on the team told CBS4 she wasn't surprised to learn of Specht's arrest.

"He was flirty with girls. Half the girls on the team," Lina Deng said. "He just plays around with them differently, not in a way you should be playing with girls."

Another student told CBS4 there had been rumors about Specht going around the school.

Specht had been under contract for the past year with the Colorado Kings basketball team, a pro team in Aurora. Durrell Middleton, the owner of the team, told CBS4 the charges are disturbing.

"I know Wesley to be a Christian, a spiritual man. I know he's from a solid family who are also Christians. So when I heard the news, I was shocked," Middleton said.

Three other employees at the school had been suspended apparently because they knew about one or both of the relationships and didn't report the situation to school leaders or police.

Jefferson County School District spokeswoman Lynn Setzer said that on Friday, a male employee was cleared and returned to work. Two other employees however remain under investigation for what they knew and how they handled the information.

School officials said counseling is being made available to students who need it.
