The ‘Growbot’ cargo trailer was parked outside the Exdo Events Center, 1399 35th Street in Denver, for the High Times 2011 Medical Cannabis Cup. The cup is a weekend long medical marijuana expo featuring cultivation and business seminars for prospective medical marijuana growers and sellers.
“It was very brazen, but in the long run it was very stupid,” said Greg Childre, the owner and manufacturer of the ‘all-in-one mobile grow stations’.
Childre said of the thieves, “They’re lucky I didn’t walk around the corner and catch ’em.”
Childre expressed surprise that no one noticed or stopped the thieves. A security guard was patrolling the property and at least 15 surveillance cameras were rolling at about 9 p.m. Sunday.
None of that stopped the culprits. They backed a black heavy duty pickup truck up to the mobile grow station, hitched the truck to the cargo trailer then calmly drove away.
“I just watched in disbelief,” Childre said of the videotape, which was provided to CBS4. “I mean they backed it up, hooked it up and drove it past security guards.”
The 12-foot high, airtight Growbot is extremely sophisticated filled with grow lights, an irrigation system, mechanical shelves and a cooling system. It can be operated remotely by cellphone, said Childre.
He said since December, his company has sold 16 similar units across the country. Each one takes three to four weeks to build.
When asked, “Who do you think did this?” Childre replied, “Potheads- they’re pretty stupid.”
Childre said whoever swiped the Growbot will have trouble hiding it and getting rid of it as it’s so unique. He is offering a $5,000 reward for the med marijuana trailer, which he reported stolen to police in Denver earlier this week.
Anyone with information about the stolen GrowBot trailer is asked to call 303-598-2929.
