Colorado Bike Race Now Named 'USA Pro Cycling Challenge'
DENVER (CBS4/AP) - The professional cycling staging race slated to wind through much of Colorado this summer has gone through a name change.
Referred to up until this point as the Quizno's Pro Challenge, the inaugural race will now be titled the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. According to race officials, Quizno's "will continue as a founding sponsor with the same level of participation in the event."
Gov. John Hickenlooper and former Gov. Bill Ritter, an avid cyclist, were on hand Tuesday as race officials announced that the final stage of the race will be televised live on national TV.
NBC Sports will broadcast the closing stage from Golden to Denver on Aug. 28. The cable channel Versus will cover the entire race with 3 1/2 hour daily broadcasts.
About 120 cyclists will be riding through 11 Colorado cities and towns in a mix of mountain, sprint and downtown stages starting Aug. 22.
Lance Armstrong, who lives in Aspen, was instrumental in establishing the new race.
