Groups File Separate Lawsuits Over Colorado Emissions

DENVER (AP) - Environmental groups have filed two lawsuits in federal court over power-plant emissions in Colorado.

In one suit, WildEarth Guardians seeks to close the Lamar Light and Power plant in Lamar until it proves it can meet emissions standards. The suit says state regulators fined the plant $22,750 last year for violations.

Utility Superintendent Rick Rigel told The Denver Post he hadn't been served with the suit and couldn't comment. The plant is currently off-line for modifications.

WildEarth Guardians previously filed a lawsuit alleging the plant was built without proper controls. That suit is ongoing.

Separately, the Environmental Defense Fund has filed a lawsuit alleging the Environmental Protection Agency missed a deadline to approve a plan to deal with regional haze affecting national parks in Colorado. The EPA didn't immediately respond.
