Del Norte Teen Pleads Guilty To Killing Mom, Stepdad

DEL NORTE, Colo. (AP) - A 16-year-old boy faces up to 54 years in prison after accepting a plea deal in the killings of his mother and stepfather in southern Colorado.

John Caudle entered his guilty plea Thursday in Del Norte in the October 2009 slayings of Joanne and Tracy Rinebarger.

The Valley Courier reported that Caudle apologized and said he knew what he did was wrong. He said he shot his mother after years of repressed anger welled up when she got angry with him for not handing her a glass of Dr. Pepper.

He said he killed his stepfather when he came home, fearing his reaction.

Caudle said he always seemed to be grounded no matter what he did. He also told investigators that he was tired of being verbally abused.

He will be sentenced in June.
