Entire Town Evacuated Because Of Fire

KARVAL, Colo. (CBS4)- The entire town of Karval has been ordered to evacuate because of a fire that's 6 to 8 miles wide. The fire is burning off Highway 71 and County Road M in Lincoln County, six miles west of Karval.

Karval is located about 78 miles east of Colorado Springs. The town has about 85 residents.

Lincoln County Sheriff said the fire is very large and estimated to be about 5,000 acres. The flames are moving east toward the town of Karval.

One bridge on County Road N has burned down and another bridge is on fire right now at County Road N and County Road 22. The fire has also destroyed a barn.

The fire started at about 4 p.m. There are eight fire departments agencies fighting the fire including Hugo, Crowley County, Limon, Tri-County, Ordway. Two more agencies have been called out. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says they are trying to get air support.
