Lawmakers Pull Crimes Against Unborn Children Bill
DENVER (CBS4)- State lawmakers sponsoring a bill that would have made the death of an unborn child as the result of a crime, a homicide regardless of how far along the pregnancy is, have withdrawn their bill.
Rep. Mark Waller, R-Colorado Springs, and Rep. Laura Bradford, R-Grand Junction, withdrew the bill on Wednesday evening.
"After great deliberation, we have decided not to move forward with House Bill 1256. I have said all along, this is a criminal justice issue, and I still believe it is. This bill was never intended to move the abortion debate in one direction or the other. I only want to criminalize horrible acts committed against women and their unborn children, " said Waller in a statement.
"It saddens me to know that those who commit crimes against unborn children may continue to go unpunished because those in the abortion debate cannot come together to find common ground on this criminal justice issue," said Bradford.
