Report Of Sex Assault At Crestmoor Park Shocks Neighborhood

DENVER (CBS4) - A woman told police she was violently attacked and sexually assaulted just as it was getting dark Sunday night on the edge of Crestmoor Park.

The attack happened near the intersection of Monoco Parkway and Cedar at about 8 p.m.

Neighbors say violent crimes in that area are out of the ordinary, which makes the crime that much more shocking for them.

There's a preschool on the edge of the park as well as a church. People also say that families bring their children to a playground there. The park is also a popular place for joggers and people walking their dogs.

"This is the first that I've ever heard of anything," a man who lives near the park said.

"It's a very great area, we bring our kids here," preschool employee Kathleen Lewis said. "Reaction at the preschool is pretty shocking considering there are a lot of us single women do work at the preschool and we come early in the morning when it's still dark out."

All Denver police said is that the suspect is described as an Asian male. There aren't many other details at this time. They do consider him armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call Denver police at (720) 913-2000. Remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP (7867).
