Fort Collins Police Probe Larimer GOP Finances

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Larimer County Republican Party officials have asked Fort Collins police to investigate the party's finances.

The Coloradoan reported Monday that party officials went to Fort Collins police after sorting through boxes of financial records left by former chairman, Larry Carillo.

Interim Larimer GOP Chairman Devon Lentz wouldn't say if they found anything suspicious.

A police spokeswoman only confirmed the investigation involved Larimer GOP finances. She said it was too early to talk about the investigation's focus.

Carillo resigned last month after his party confronted him about secretary of state notices of unfiled campaign finance reports.

The interim GOP chair said Carillo never provided the party with financial reports.

The party faces a record fine of $48,700. Carillo has accepted responsibility for the unfiled reports and denies using party money improperly.
