Benefit Held For Family Killed In Crash

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) - The Thornton community remembered a family of five killed in a car crash on Sunday.

The Stollsteimer family -- a couple and their three sons -- all died last month when their pickup truck was totaled by an SUV near 84th and Grant.

Friends and family gathered at Smokin' Joes in Wheat Ridge. Many local businesses donated food and services for the benefit.

Family members expressed their gratitude.

"It's amazing. They've been getting us through this far. It's great to have all this support, you know, we're thankful for every bit of it," family member Renee Torrez said.

The benefit will help the family with funeral expenses.

The woman driving the SUV, Monica Chavez, had no drugs or alcohol in her system the night of the crash. Thornton police are still investigating what happened.
