Murder Suspect's Brother Says No Signs Of Trouble

BURLINGTON, Colo. (CBS4)- The older brother of a 12-year-old murder suspect talked publicly on Wednesday for the first time since the attack inside a home in Burlington.

The boy allegedly shot both his parents and attacked his younger siblings, 9-year-old brother and 5-year-old sister, with a knife. Both are expected to recover. He is in custody, possibly facing first degree murder charges.

Charles Long, a snack delivery driver and elder at Burlington's Evangelical Free Church, and his wife, Marilyn, director of the church's children's ministry, were found fatally shot inside their modest home near the Kansas state line on Tues. March 1.

The suspect's older brother, Jacob Long, said there were no signs of trouble at the home during an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan on Wednesday.

"I went over there after I got off work and I was there until 10 minutes before it happened. The kids were running around, everyone was having a good time, absolutely no indication," said Jacob Long.

The suspect's uncle, Wally Long, visited the boy at the youth detention center in Greeley, where he is being held.

Long said the boy seems to be doing okay.

"Just how are things inside the jail and he said things were fine. He didn't really like the food and he complained about that," said Wally Long.

The two children injured in the attack will not attend Friday's funeral services for their parents. The family has asked those services remain private.

Caleb Long released this statement on Wednesday, "My family has suffered a devastating loss that not only hurt the family but shocked the entire town. The funeral is our time to not only mourn our loss but to also celebrate the life that we shared together. We don't need anybody bothering us by asking all kinds of questions. All I ask is that our privacy is respected. Thanks."

Burlington is a town of 3,700 people along Interstate 70 about 140 miles east of Denver.
