Metro State Trustees Back Changing School's Name

DENVER (AP) - The Metropolitan State College trustees have endorsed a new name for the school -- Denver State University.

The Denver Post reports the board voted 5-2 Wednesday for the new name for the downtown Denver school. The new moniker could become reality as soon as fall 2012 if the Legislature approves it.

Trustee Kathryn "Kat" Cammack says students overwhelmingly favor the name Denver State. A survey showed that administrators and donors also liked it.

Another favorite was Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Marcia Garcia-Berry, who opposed the measure, said she's concerned the change could lead to a shift in the school's mission of providing a reasonably priced, high-quality education.
