Colorado Lawmakers Consider Travel Spending Limits

DENVER (AP) -- Colorado state-chartered agencies are telling lawmakers they can't live with proposed new restrictions on travel.

A House committee considered a measure Thursday that would restrict the travel of state-chartered agencies to 200 percent of IRS limits. But universities, hospitals and state agencies told legislators $680 a day isn't enough to cover expenses in New York City and $554 is too little for Boston.

Rep. Sal Pace, D-Pueblo, says the bill is aimed at the workers' compensation insurer Pinnacol Assurance, which spent thousands of dollars on a golf outing for executives.

Pace offered to limit the new rules to Pinnacol, but the House State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee delayed action on his bill, saying there were too many complaints and questions about the bill.
