Tow Truck Drivers Gather To Honor Killed Driver

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4/AP) - Dozens of tow truck drivers traveled from around Colorado to honor a man killed last week while trying to tow an SUV that took off.

More than 100 tow trucks were parked outside the funeral Tuesday for 35-year-old Allen Rose in Colorado Springs. Tow trucks from Denver met at Invesco Field and then drove in a procession to Colorado Springs for the funeral.

Rose was preparing to tow away an illegally parked SUV last week when the vehicle's owner allegedly drove away. Investigators say Rose tried to chase the SUV but got tangled in a dangling tow cable and was dragged for more than a mile.

"He was there to help anyone and everybody at any given time, he served our country and loved what he did," a woman with Cozy Corner Towing said.

Rose served in the Army and was given full military honors.

"The love and support you have given the Roses, along with the amazing outcry for justice has been nothing short of extraordinary," friend Toni Meikirk said to the gathering.

Prosecutors haven't decided yet on possible charges for the SUV driver, Detra Farries, 32. She's due in court for an advisement hearing on Wednesday. Her relatives have said she wasn't aware someone was being dragged.

Rose is survived by his wife and two children.
