LAFAYETTE, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Lafayette found a woman dead and her son seriously injured inside a home on Wednesday.
Police were called to the home, located at 2817 Whitetail Circle, at about 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the woman, Rita Redford, called 911 and asked for help. She said she was feeling threatened by her son.
Officers said Adam Raszynki, 33, Redford’s son, phoned police a few minutes later.
“The son called, said that his mother had shot him and that she was dead at the bottom of the staircase in the home,” said Lafayette Police Department spokesman Gene McCausey.
When police arrived, officers said Raszynski immediately came outside.
“As the son exited the residence he indicated to the officer ‘My mother shot me,’” said McCausey.
Police found the Redford’s body inside, but their investigation is still ongoing.
“We at this point don’t even know if she’s been shot, but she is dead,” said McCausey
Police said they had been called to the home in the past for a similar disturbance. They said that Raszynski lived in the home with his mother and they will be speaking to him once he’s in serious condition.
The autopsy on Redford was scheduled to begin Thursday afternoon.
